Gil
Kerlikowske - Drug Czar
Born
in 1949, Kerlikowske is a 36-year veteran law enforcement officer. His last job
was as Seattle, Washington's police chief. Obama hears that someone's from "Washington"
and he just has to hire them. After all, Obama doesn't have the greatest knowledge
of geography.
Anyway, Kerlikowske is probably best known for his inaction at
2001's Seattle Mardi Gras Riots that resulted in one death and close to 100 injuries.
Kerlikowske didn't do anything except have his officers establish a perimeter
and allow the riot to continue. The city ended up paying $2,000,000 after being
sued for the debacle.
Due to that and his admonishment of an officer that was
rude to jaywalkers, the Seattle Police Officers' Guild gave Kerlikowske a vote
of no confidence. Some six years later, Kerlikowske was accused of repeatedly
interfering in an internal investigation that resulted in the NAACP calling for
his resignation. Obama must not have been told about that. Other than that, he
sounds just like Obama material.
Of
course, it's not truly an Obama nomination without some hypocrisy. The Drug Czar's
son, Jeffrey Kerlikowske, is currently jailed in Florida on a parole violation.
He has a criminal record that spans over ten years that includes marijuana possession
and distribution charges, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft, cruelty
to animals and larceny.
Obama, who still can't stop smoking while he tells you
how to live your life, may identify with the younger Kerlikowske. Obama admits
to drug use that includes smoking crack.
While TLG sides more with the Libertarian
Party on the issue of drugs, TLG still believes that a Drug Czar who has a son
accused of the very crimes that he is charged with stopping is not qualified and
has a definite conflict of interest. However, who better for Obama to do his bidding
than one he has leverage over his son's criminal activity? After all, a pardon
is only a signature away.
