America's Freedoms Under Attack: Socialism - Day 557

Eric Shinseki - Secretary of Veterans' Affairs
Retired General Eric ShinsekiBorn in 1942, retired General Shinseki is another Obama has-been. Shinseki rose through the upper ranks during the Clinton administration. A highly decorated officer, he has served proudly with our military. Unfortunately, he finally reached the level of his incompetence.

Near the end of his career, probably the most famous political issue with which he was involved was the invasion of Iraq. Shinseki thought it would take several hundred thousand troops to hold Iraq.

The invasion of Iraq swiftly defeated Saddam's military. The trouble ensued in the power vacuum after Saddam was ousted. Shinseki was correct that more troops were needed to hold Iraq, but it was far from his wild estimates.

Despite the democrats' objections and Obama's continued denial, Bush agreed with General David Petraeus that a 20,000 troop surge was needed to rout the remaining terrorists. Obama and the democrats, hiding behind their front organization called MoveOn.org, mounted a smear campaign against Petraeus.

About a month later, the democrats led by Harry Reid sent a letter to Clear Channel Radio trying get conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh fired. Angry that Limbaugh had announced to his 20 million listeners that the Surge had worked, they twisted what Limbaugh had discussed with a caller. It backfired, badly.

The letter, whose signatures were all democrats including both Hillary and Obama, was auctioned off by Limbaugh on eBay and the $2.1 million it raised was donated to the Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, a registered charity which provides financial assistance to the children of fallen Marines and federal law enforcement officers.

Interestingly, Obama, arguably the most vocal opponent of sending in more troops to Iraq and states that he had always been opposed to the war with the murdering dictator Saddam Hussein, picks a retired general that wanted to send 20 times the number of troops into Iraq provided by the Surge. To this day, Obama denies that the Surge worked.

Contrary to popular liberal belief, Shinseki retired as scheduled, not because of his disagreements with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
